Rooted in Inver Grove Heights
Born and raised in Minnesota, AJ Gubash grew up in Inver Grove Heights and is proud to call it home. After serving overseas, he returned home and purchased a house in Inver Grove Heights, where he plans to build his future and continue serving the community that raised him.
AJ was raised in a family that valued service, responsibility, and community. His father served as a police officer in West St. Paul for nearly three decades, helping shape AJ’s respect for law enforcement, public safety, and accountability.
From a young age, AJ developed a strong interest in government, history, and public policy, values that would later shape both his education and his commitment to public service.
Service and Experience
After high school, AJ enlisted in the United States Army and served four years as an infantryman.
Following his military service, he deployed to Afghanistan twice as a private military contractor, working alongside U.S. and allied forces. Those experiences gave him firsthand exposure to security, leadership, accountability, and the importance of stability in uncertain environments.
AJ has remained connected to the veteran community through the Minnesota Warriors hockey program, where he continues to value teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie beyond military service.
Education and Professional Background
After returning home, AJ began his higher education at Inver Hills Community College, earning an associate’s degree in criminal justice before continuing his studies at Hamline University, where he graduated with honors in law and political analysis.
While attending college, AJ worked for Wipaire in Inver Grove Heights for two years, gaining firsthand experience in the local business community and seeing the challenges facing both employers and working families.
AJ also worked in Washington, D.C. at The Heritage Foundation, where he gained exposure to the legislative process and saw firsthand how decisions made at the highest levels of government affect communities back home in Minnesota.
While in Washington, AJ had the opportunity to observe congressional oversight proceedings involving Minnesota leadership. That experience reinforced his belief that government must remain accountable to the people it serves and strengthened his desire to become involved in Minnesota politics here at home.
AJ is running for State House to bring accountability, common sense, and practical conservative leadership to St. Paul.
He believes government should focus on results, not bureaucracy. And supports policies that strengthen communities, protect individual rights, and keep Minnesota affordable for working families.
His priorities include:
Lowering the tax burden, particularly property taxes and vehicle registration taxes
Supporting law enforcement and maintaining safe communities
Expanding school choice and increasing parental involvement in education
Practical education reform that prepares students for success after graduation
Protecting Second Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens
Limited, accountable government focused on what actually works
Protecting election integrity through voter ID requirements and secure, transparent elections
Outside of politics and public service, AJ enjoys Minnesota’s outdoors, spending time on the lakes with his dog Lacy, playing hockey, golfing, hunting, and trap shooting with his father.
AJ’s approach is simple: listen to the community, focus on practical solutions, and help restore what makes Minnesota a great place to live.
